History was made Tuesday at JFK Airport as an all-electric aircraft made a successful runway landing for the first time. CBS News New York's Zinnia Maldonado spoke to aviation experts about what this means for the future of flying.
Kyle Clark, Founder & CEO of Beta Technologies, where the aircraft was developed, explained to the reporters how cost-effective it is, alongside the environmental benefits coming from the energy usage & emissions perspective. Using just US$8 for the energy cost, which would otherwise cost over US$600 if it were a conventional & equivalent-sized aircraft, would also have an environmental cost from the combustion fuel emissions.
Although this was not the first-ever aircraft that was purely electric, it was definitely close to ready and actually hauled passengers between the airports that were around 130 km apart for this debut flight.
The history of the development is appropriately showcased here.
